UP ASUS is the youngest academic organization for students under the BA Sociology program. It was established on 11 September 2011 by its eight founders, who are Jed Adao, Aya Arce, Romelyn Buenconsejo-Quañeo, Cirez De Leon, Jethro Laurente, Crisilyn Paguio, Kit Panisales, and Philip Tanpoco Jr.
The UP Alliance of Students Unified for Sociology or UP ASUS is an autonomous, non-partisan academic-civic student organization for the Sociology students of the University of the Philippines Los Baños.
Vision
The alliance’s vision is to develop an accomplished academic-civic organization committed in embodying different perspectives in Sociology and applying such knowledge for social action.
Mission
The alliance’s missions are to:
- Develop and enhance our knowledge and skills through academic excellence; and
- Redefine social responsibility through effective and proactive community leadership
objectives
The alliance’s objectives are to:
- Promote Sociology as a multi-paradigmatic academic discipline;
- Train students who are both academically competent and articulate in expressing their ideas and viewpoints regarding socially-relevant issues and public concerns; and
- Cultivate socio-civic programs that will develop socially aware and socially responsible members of the community.
