Department of Social Sciences
The Department is engaged in instruction, research and extension activities in the field of Social Sciences at UP Los Baños. It offers the social sciences component of the General Education Program (GE) for UPLB and services academic programs of other colleges that require social science courses as electives. The DSS programs produce graduates imbued with the sociological consciousness and imagination, enabling them to increasingly relate themselves meaningfully to social change and national development. It offers the following degree programs: BA Sociology MA Sociology
The Sociology-Anthropology-Psychology (S-A-P) division is one of the divisions by academic discipline of the Department of Social Sciences organized in 1996. The Division offers a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology program, social science electives, and general education courses.
The Division of Political Science under the Department of Social Sciences offers courses on contemporary Philippine politics and government, global politics, political parties and interest groups, political ideologies, and development and politics. The Division contributes to the wider community through research, voter and civic education, and public discussions of significant issues that impact the nation.  
The Division of History was organized in 1996 which offers general education courses such as Philippine History and Rizal Studies, and courses pertaining to histories of institutions, local history, and development. The Division actively takes on historical research particularly local and national history through interdisciplinary perspectives. It also engages with the community through lectures and public service programs which aims to assist and discuss matters about history.

Mission

To realized the vision, the department has the following mission:

1Offer multidisciplinary undergraduate and graduate programs in the Social Sciences with the highest standards of academic instruction and innovative teaching strategies;

2Enrich the basic social science components of the University’s General Education Program;

3Conduct interdisciplinary, multistakeholder, collaborative, and transformative social science research, advocacy work, and public service that will uplift the lives of peoples and communities; and

4Produce outstanding social science practitioners and advocates who will uphold honor and excellence; promote freedom, democracy, and social justice for the advancement of the Filipino people.

A leading academic institution in Southern Luzon that spearheads innovation in social science instruction and research, conducts advocacy work, and provides public service towards development of peoples and communities.
