The UPLB Department of Social Sciences (DSS) congratulates Dr. April Hope T. Castro for being appointed as the new Director of the UPLB General Education (GE) Program effective February 2024. Dr. Castro has served as the GE Coordinator for HIST 1/KAS 1 (Philippine History) of UPLB since 2014. At DSS, she was the Head of the History Division for three years (2007-2009; 2010-2011). She earned her BA History (cum laude), MA Asian Studies, and PhD History from UP Diliman. Her researches focus on the 19th Century archival research, institutional and political history, vocabularios, crime and criminality such as deportados and destierros during the Spanish period, and studies about agriculture, science, and medicine in the history of the Philippines.
